History of stamps in Bhutan started way back in 1954 when Bhutan issued its first stamps. The release consisted of four revenue stamps issued in Tibetan currency: 1 Trangka (blue); 2 Trangka (red); 4 Trangka (green); and 8 Trangka (orange). These stamps were also made valid for postage on 1st January, 1955.

In Bhutan, the regular postal system started with issuance of these stamps and using them as postage stamps in 1955. Later postage stamps were widely used to reflect and showcase a country’s history, identity, culture, values and national achievements.
